Vics' started this game looking good and putting together some brilliant football with the Mintcakes' struggling to get any foothold in proceedings. Vics' took the lead early with Iain Howard shooting into the net via the post left-footed from 18 yards after Josh Amis had cleverly cushioned the ball into his path from Stuart Cook's incisive pass. Vics' continued to dominate and on 18' Kendal keeper' Chris Thompson dropped Mintcakes' centre-back Adam Freeland's headed backpass with Gary Burnett seizing on the error but his goal-bound shot hit Josh Wardle on his arm, with the referee waving away the vociferous penalty appeals. Iain Howard sent a long free-kick into the Mintcakes' six-yard box on 36', that picked out Vics' striker Josh Amis but his header landed just wide of the near upright. A wonder goal arrived four minutes later on 40', a typical lung-busting run and inside pass by Alex Byrne found Brian Summerskill perfectly; he spun onto the ball and sent a left-foot rising drive into the top corner of the net from twenty-five yards with Mintcakes' glove-man Chris Thompson helpless to do anything about it.

Matt Regan 2016

The second half began almost like all the first had been, with the Mintcakes' battling gamely but struggling to create any goal-scoring chances. Vics' centre-back Matt Regan thumped in a header from short range at the far post from game-star Brian Summerkill's arcing cross on the left-hand side just past the outside of the area. On 73' Mintcakes' striker Alex Newby wriggled clear in the box but his shot from 14 yards lacked power and direction with Vics' keeper' Mason Springthorpe happy to let the ball go wide of his near post. Soon after on 77' Vics' sub Richie Bennett's left-foot drive from just outside the box was thwarted by Mintcakes' keeper Thompson after being sent clear by an excellent through-ball by Vics' sub' Simon Lakeland. Vics' nearly scored a fourth and fifth goal on 86' and 88' with centre-back Andy Watson sending a thirty-five yard shot just past the post and Brian Summerskill sent another left-foot drive goal-wards from 16 yards on an angle but Mintcakes' keeper' Thompson finger-tipped the brilliant effort just over the cross-bar with a flying save. The closing minutes passed off with Vics' easing to a comfortable win and earning another important three points in the quest for promotion.

Vics' M.O.M - Brian Summerskill. Completely dominated the engine room and was his usual industrious self. A great goal to double Vics' lead and set-up Matt Regan for the match-clinching third just past the hour.
