We are pleased to announce two new additions to the squad in readiness for the impending 2016/17 Evo-Stik NPL Division One South campaign. Centre-back Harley Wigley, 20; and central midfielder Alec Mudimu, 21. Profiles on each player are published below including interviews with Jamie Dewsbury and Manager Adam Lakeland's thoughts on their arrivals.
Alec Mudimu. Age 21. Position - central midfielder. Height 6ft 3''. Previous Club - Stalybridge Celtic. Alec pictured below in action for Stalybridge Celtic.
PROFILE - A workhorse and possesses a tireless engine in the midfield area and helps dictate what's happens during games, very positive in contributing as an attacking force and a good distributor of the ball.
Welcome to the Vics', Alec. What attracted you to sign on with the Green and Whites'?
I feel that signing for the Vics' is a positive step in my career; I've stepped down leagues but I think this will benefit me massively especially being at a great club with good people, I feel as if I've got a lot to offer and a lot to learn at the same time. I feel like the manager and coaching staff are great and I can't wait to start and push on for a great season. This is a good footballing team and I think there will be a few surprised faces at how well we can do for the up-coming season.
Manager Adam Lakeland on Alec's arrival at the Club -
I’m delighted to have secured the signing of Alec from Stalybridge Celtic. He is a player who I have watched numerous times and has been on my radar since I came to the club back in January so its great that we’ve managed to get him here. At only 21 he has vast experience having played over 50 times for Stalybridge in the Conference North and he has the potential to improve with his best years still ahead of him. He is an athletic and powerful midfielder that not only gives us that added physical presence in the midfield area but also great balance with his left foot. He is composed in possession, a key attribute I look for in a footballer, and I’m sure that he will prove to be a very significant player for us going forward. I feel that the style of football we play will suit Alec and I’m really looking forward to working with him.
Harley Wigley. Age 20. Position - central defender. Height - 6ft 1''. Previous Clubs - Sheffield United youth teams, Rotherham Utd, Stalybridge Celtic, Farsley Celtic. Harley pictured below after netting a goal in action for Stalybridge Celtic.
PROFILE - Tall, imposing centre-back and strong aerially. Comfortable bringing the ball out of defence.
Welcome to the Vics', Harley. Happy to sign on at the Club, and with a couple of faces familiar to yourself?
Firstly I'd like to thank Kieran (Bentley; goal-keeping coach) for putting me in touch with the gaffer (Adam Lakeland) and helping with this opportunity to come and play for the Vics', and staff for bringing me into the club. After having a long conversation with Adam and speaking to the Club captain Reag's (Matty Regan) I felt like it was the right club for me to play my football at moving forward. I think the style of play and views that Adam has on the game will suit me down to the ground. There is a good atmosphere around the club along with a good set of lads. This should create a consistent winning team so I'm very excited for the season ahead.
Manager Adam Lakeland on Harley's commitment to the Club -
Im also pleased to announce that Harley has joined the club. Harley, 20, was at Sheffield United in their junior set-up and then at Rotherham until he was 18 before having brief spells at Stalybridge, Ossett Albion and Harrogate Railway. He has all the attributes you need to be a good central defender at this level so hopefully he can fulfil his potential in his time with us and go on to become a very accomplished centre-back. He is a great lad with an excellent attitude to work hard and learn so I’m hopeful we can help him to kick on and develop. He has had a frustrating pre-season having picked up an injury during the friendly at Colwyn Bay and hasn’t featured since which has set him back a couple of weeks so hopefully he can get over that quickly and be in contention for the seasons' opener on 13th August at HOME to Basford United.
